I don't watch much tv. Well, actually, I watch a ton of it but it's mostly of sporting events or movies. I don't have a slew of television shows that I watch on a regular basis. I guess that's what I mean when I proudly state that I don't watch tv. Whatever. tv is great. I just wish there were more shows of interest to me. I'm gaga over Battlestar Gallactica and that has been my show of the year. I'm a total johnny come lately on this but I don't care. Better late than never. I love me some Battlestar and highly recommend it to anyone and everyone. But that's not what this post is about. This post is about the fact that I now have a second show that I like to watch. Two shows! That really makes me a tv show watcher, doesn't it? The second show is Sleeper Cell on Showtime. I'm a total johnny come lately with this one as well. I haven't even watched the latest season yet. I just finished the first season which is available for free on On Demand. I don't even subscribe to Showtime, but the gf does so I can go over there and watch it. Or maybe I'll just order it. I don't know.
Here's a video of Bjork talking about her tv
I can't believe that the year is about up.
I know, I know... what a cliche, but for myself, personally, I have found this to be one hell of a fast year. The fastest on record to date. And yes, I keep such mental records.
Maybe it had to do with having spent a quarter of the year living abroad? That, and the fact that this is the first year in a long while that I have had a girlfriend? We do a lot together so it's not just my calendar that sets my social agenda. As Borat would say, I like.
I want to do so much and I am but I want to do more. I'm excited as hell about the upcoming year. For many reasons, both personal and professional.
I'm excited about the web again and all that is happening in the social networking space and the possibilities that "web 2.0" have created. I'm excited about my personal web sites that include simple updates posted over at jorgemir.com via twitter, a personal mix-tape like podcast over at wordsandguitar.com, and my old school blog at xero79.com that is now the house that links built. Over the past year or so I've totally gotten away from blogging. Not totally, but this type of blogging where I just write about me, my life, and the things I'm into or pissed off about. It was for the typical reasons like job security, insecurity or other lame reasons.
My New Year's resolution is to blog more. I know it's been written and said before but I have more of a reason to get back to it since it is a part of my life in a bigger way than in the past and I love it.
- The city of Beverly Hills has replaced their old blue city limit signs with new bigger brown ones.*
- Their are two intersections on Sunset Blvd. with a bird on the wire.**
- It's gotten quite cooler out recently.***
- Most everybody doesn't have a fucking clue.****
* I've worked in BH
** I love Hollywood.
*** Duh.
**** Actually, I've known this for some time.
Do you believe in ghosts? Have you ever seen a ghost?
Submitted by Nancy.
Let's see... do I believe in ghosts? No. Not really. Though I was watching this really cool show on the Discovery channel about ghosts and haunted houses and it may have swayed me a bit. Naw, on second thought, it really didn't sway me, but it was entertaining.
Boo!
So working from home is a trip. There are good things and bad things about it but like most things, it's not gonna last forever.
I haven't exactly set the world on fire with my blogging here like I said I was gonna, but I think that's just a combination of trying too hard, being busy, and really not having much interesting to say. The bloggers' delimma revisited. As a result, I've decided to say "F it", I'm going to post the mundane and boring even if it's not exactly gripping content.
What got me back in the swing of blogging again is a new sports fan site called Fan Nation. If you sign up for an account they automatically give you a blog to post your sports thoughts to. I've been taking advantage of that and posting my predictions on the baseball playoffs. Check my user profile out if yer so inclined. And leave me a comment damn it. I know peeps have been going to my blog posts on there but no one is saying anything. What kind of sports fan doesn't pipe up and say I'm full of shit or defend their team or at the very least thank me fo rmy wisdom?
My cousin got married this past weekend in La Jolla by the beach. My gf met the Mir side of the family and she di
dn't go running for the hills so that must be a good sign. The family didn't eat her alive as well so that is a bonus. Not much is going on at this particular moment. I've been doing the more random and inconsequential "blogging" over on twitter. It's the greatest thing ever. Just what I've been wanting. Kinda like back in 2000 when I wanted some online tool to help me self publish. Back then I found Blogger and now I have twitter. And the funny thing is both companies were started by Evan Williams. Swell guy. I remember him helping me personally to keep my blog up and running before Google bought Blogger.
I'm really looking forward to things these days. Particularly the upcoming Bridge School concert up in Mountainview. Not this weekend but the next. Give me Pearl Jam and Neil Young anytime and life is good. Add in a little Death Cab for Cutie, Dave Matthews Band, Brian Wilson, Trent Reznor, Foo Fighters, Gillian Welch, and Devendra Banhart and things are borderline great. It's my little yearly retreat so to speak and this will be year number 13 for me. Woo hoo!
What's your favorite restaurant?
My favorite restaurant is a steakhouse in Los Angeles called Taylor's Steakhouse. I went there for my 30th birthday party and for a going away dinner before I went off to Germany for 10 weeks to work there during the World Cup. It's an old establishment and the they have great steaks for non-rediculous prices.
I've been posting like once a month. But I'm going to set this bitch on fire. Bloggin' old school style... but, yer going to have to be a compadre of some sort to read the goods. Hit me up. If yer not a douche bag, I'll let you "in".
August was a fun month.
Jen and I started out by going camping with Matt and Cheryl in Big Sur. It's a great yearly retreat that also serves as a celebration for Matt's birthday. Swampy and Jenny joined us this year as well.
The standout big trip of the August and the Summer was to the windy city of Chicago. I made it to the last old ballpark that I wanted to see, Wrigley Field. We got a killer pad to stay at with a view of Lake Michigan and the rest of downtown.jen is always taking pictures of me and I always try to stop her so she has a bunch of photos of me trying to avoid being photographed. She created a funny post on her blog displaying all the lovely photos of my trying to dodge her camera's eye.
Last weekend me, Vic, and Brent went to the Sunset Junction and had a blast walking around Silverlake drunk and rocking out to some cool bands.
The gf and I closed out the month with an unplanned concert at The Forum. We rocked it hard core style with my buddy Pete and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. John Frusciante is one of my favorite guitarists. When he and Flea jam together it is simply pure rock and roll bliss.
Recent activities have included seeing The Racontuers which was fun but I was a bit drunk and sat way up in the back at The Wiltern so the show was really nothing to get into details about. The Flaming Lips at The Hollywood Bowl was a great time. I didn't know you were allowed to bring your own food and booze into the venue! Woo hoo! The next couple of shows I go to there are going to really be fun. The music was good but the Lips themselves were a bit of a drag. I think it was in large part due to the fact that Wayne was egging the audience on to sing along and be loud ("c'mon guys, really be loud this time") because they were filming the show for a DVD.
Both those events were a couple of weeks ago now. This past weekend was a nice one as me and the girl went down to La Jolla to see some friends get married. A really nice wedding and the fastest on record in my book. The ceremony was about five minutes! No joke. This weekend we're headed off to the north for our annual camping trip with the Manzers and whoever else shows up. Should be a blast and I hear the state park that we're staying at now has free wifi.
I can't believe it's August already!
So I've been back a little over a week after having returned from
living and working in Germany for happenings related to the World Cup. Though I was stuck mostly in Frankfurt I did manage to get out to a total
of four matches, the best being USA v. Italy, and spend a week in Berlin.
I saw two of Pearl Jam's shows here in Los Angeles last week and I'm happy to report that Ed and the Boys are rocking the world back into shape. Among the many great songs they belted out was a finer than usual rendition of Better Man with the Save It For Later tag at the end.
Over the past week I spent some great times with my girlfriend including two trips to the movies to see Pirates and A Scanner Darkly. Neither one was worth a shit to be honest. I still don't know what the hell Scanner was about. Pirates was at least entertaining but I can't really see why everyone loves Johnny the Pirate so much. Keira is nice to look at I suppose.
Coming up: Tom Petty fan club on sale Tuesday, The Raconteurs on Thursday at The Wiltern, kick ass Dodger seats for Friday, and The Flaming Lips at the Hollywood Bowl to close out Sunday.
